What is your personal mission when it comes to how you improve educational opportunities for your students?

I believe that if other students can do it, so can mine. I push my students to give and try their best, and show them they can go further than they think. More importantly, I utilize the people around me. I lean on my teammates and interventionists to help me. We add what we feel is needed and necessary, going beyond the curriculum.

How have or what are your plans for how you will use your award?

I’ve shared some of my award with my teammates because they helped make this possible. Some I’ve poured back into my classroom and students. The rest is sitting. I may need it to take students on a great field trip or throw them a celebratory party this year.

What’s the best advice you have for educators on how to achieve academic growth like yours?

Set high standards for yourself and your students and follow through.
